I've given some thought to selling my F-style (#42, pictures posted here). I really dig it, but I'm mostly a guitarist and it sits in the case a lot. I can imagine downgrading to a Collings MF maybe to put a little money back in my pocket...
You could always post an ad in the classifieds, where MF's seem to be trading around $3300 lately. I'd trade you one if I had it, as I'd like to own one of Stefan's F5's at some point (although I hadn't considered pearwood on a mandolin). I don't know how much Smoky Mountain Guitar was charging for them new back in 2007, but I wish that I had been smart enough to get in then!
Stefan actually harvested the Pearwood on his family's property in Europe. It was a very old tree, from what I remember, and the wood was somewhat special to him due to its source. It doesn't have any figure to it. The sound is comparable to maple...not sure I could tell a difference. My instrument has an Englemann top if I recall correctly. Sounds somewhat modern, really nice.

While tooling around the Fiddler's Green website, I was interested to find a new F5, #87: http://www.fiddlersgreenmusicshop.co...le-mandolin-87 Heretofore, I was under the impression that Stefan had an exclusive deal with Smoky Mountain Guitars to sell his F5's (with his A5's and the occasional mandola going to Fiddler's Green). I wonder if Passernig mandolin family instruments will exclusively be featured at Fiddler's Green in the future or if SMG simply declined #87 as they had not yet moved #86.
