Has anyone done this yet, if so what did you use I would like to go with the solid tailpiece, Ashton Bailey and such, I believe they are solid cast.

Just curious as to why you want to change your tail piece? Easier string changes or simply for appearances sake?

You know I'm a Newbie and therefore unqualified to give advice but I will say that I too considered swapping the tailpiece on my LM700 but reconsidered after reading this debate in the archives.

The gist I took from it would be that it's purely cosmetic but take if you do swap & it makes you happy please let us know....I could easily be swayed!

well here is what I did, and I must say they made my The Loar 520 vs an incredible instrument, first I went with a Tone Guard. Awesome upgrade, volume tone sustain all improve. I then decided to do the cast Ashton Bailey tail piece. Now my ears heard the difference right off but when the band made comments and then an accomplished musician tried it and was blown away. Very affordable upgrade and I believe every quality mandolin should have a solid cast tail piece.

As Mark mentioned, strictly cosmetic...it just holds strings.
