What strings seems to work best on yours? Currently using D'Addario J74's but previous owner liked a light gauge set of another brand that I managed to disremember. Thanks...dan
For my '91 KM-1500 I really like the John Pearse heavy Phosphpor Bronze http://www.juststrings.com/jps-2160h.html They are listed as "heavy", but aren't like you would think. For my "A" KM-250S I really like the GHS Silk and Bronze. http://www.juststrings.com/ghs-lsb250.html They seem to attenuate the tinnyness and accentuate a deeper and woodier tone that I like. Howard
Thanks very much, Howard. I'll give 'em a try. dan
Hi Dan, For my KM 1000 made in 2008 I have tried J 74's, J 75's and Gibson Sam Bush (monel strings). My favorites are by far the Sam Bush strings : less brightness and sustain but perfect tone in my opinion. I have the feeling that these strings have no "own sound" and that you can hear the "real" woody sound of your mando (if that makes sense ...). In top of that, they seem to be hard-wearing !
for my '84 KM1000 I always liked the J-74 set. I might also add that my bridge was jacked up really high as well. It gets really good sounding at this high saddle height.

My '12 km 1000 loves J 74s, great tone, and they last a long time.
