Hi everyone, I am having discussions with Ken about making me a Silverangel mandolin. I was wanting some opinions on the style of mandolin and woods for the type of music of music I play. I play a range of music from blues, a bit of jazz, bluegrass, quebecois, celtic, balkan so I like a mandolin that has a nice smooth rounded sound but with resonance and a good tone all the way from the bottom notes to the top. I was thinking of going for the A-5 with a European Spruce top for starters? I am open to F-5 or the 2-pointer he makes? Opinions anyone? Thanks Nic
I ended up going with an A5 mandolin with European Spruce for the top and curly maple back and sides as recommended by Ken. David Mold was really helpful too.
Cool! Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but was on a hiatus from playing. I also have an European spruce top (Italian) and its a really nice mix between Engelmann and Red in tone, for my money.
