Anyone have any recommendations on bridges for my MD 815? I have the bridge that it came with still. Thanks
Three years ago the bridge on my MD815 snapped at the center a few months after I got it. I replaced with a Husky Acoustics Fossil Ivory bridge. This is basically a normal bridge topped with about 1/8" of ivory. It sounds good, but I don't really have the ear to describe the improvement. It was a fairly expensive upgrade. I believe there was a bad batch of bridges at that time. Eastman would have replaced it with anothe Eastman bridge, but since I had sent it back to the dealer in Tennessee, I opted to get the better bridge and have it properly fitted. Tom
Thanks for your reply. Do you happen to have any links to a place to that sells good bridges.
You could try http://www.elderly.com/accessories/cats/MPT.html or http://www.themandolinstore.com/scri...?idCategory=73, or just google Mandolin parts. I've read good things about Cumberland Acoustics bridges. You might want to have a professional install the bridge because to work and sound right it has to be fitted to the mandolin, which I think, means sanding the bottom just right. And every mandolin is different. Good luck in your quest.
It's a little late to be joining this thread but ... My 504 had a Brekke Bridge when I bought it, and I'm pleased with the sound. Of course, I don't know what it sounded like before the switch, but the Brekke seems like a good option.
