I think this reel is by John Williams.
I've not heard this one before Mike but that's some fine picking you've got going there. I enjoyed your New Years songs too.
Oh there’s another tune under the foot tapper classification, thanks Mike. They say it was written by Paddy Kelly? -unless John Williams is a US Congressman? https://thesession.org/tunes/175 X: 1 T: The New Custom House R: reel M: 4/4 L: 1/8 K: Dmix A2DE FGAB|cAGE DEFG|A2DE FGAB|cGeG dcAG| A2DE FGAB|cAGE DEFG|ADdD FGAB|cAGE AD~D2:| |:Add^c d2cd|ed^cd efge|Add^c d2cd|eaag ed^cd| Add^c d2cd|ed^cd efgb|a2ba ge^cd|eaag ed^cd:|
Fine picking once again, Mike.
John Williams is an accordion player. I was pretty sure it was his tune but maybe a cover? But I "got it" from him! He recorded it with Solas. I sat three feet from him in Elks Park in Telluride and heard him do it with John Doyle. Really thrilling!
That’s a coincidence I met John Doyle one time, years ago in an Irish pub in Paris. He had an old beaten up, borrowed (nice) guitar and played some tunes at the bar. He said he wasn’t drinking that night (another story) but he said that he liked cash, ha, ha. So we gave him cash and sandwiches, and he played some songs and we all talked about Thatcher. Ah, the nostalgia. Lovely music though. This is a great tune for inside string picking practice.
Great picking, Mike. Nice to combine a tune with such experiences.
Great playing, Mike. I must not have been at Telluride that year. Cool experiences down at Elks Park. Got to see Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, and Emmy Hair Lewis there one year. Sweet.
