From Paul Hardy’s basic tunebook, there is also an old song by the same name, but no evident musical connection, details at TheSession. This is another (low) part of the route I run on. It’s generally quite a lot warmer in the valley and the vegetation changes as you climb up.
You are really on a roll again here, with another fine bit of jiggery!
Nice jig picking!
Thanks for this, Simon.
is it possible that the oyster girl is a colleague of Molly Malone in the cockles and mussels business?
I really like The Oyster Girl. Are you getting close to 100 yet Simon?
Molly Malone - or as the statue is known in Dublin, The Tart with the Cart!
26 left to do in 16 days, Ginny, aaaaeeeii. Oyster girl, London Lass?
I have a dress just like that!!
Yes John, the Dubliners are so rude - at least, they keep the statue well-polished, apparently
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Malone A bit off topic maybe, the statue makes her look quite mature, yet in the song she died of a fever at a young age. I thought young in those days meant fourteen or fifteen?
Simon, song lyrics are a binary measure for age. When you are born, you're a "young lass" until about 45, when you suddenly change to "old hag".
You guys make me laugh every morning !
So true! Does anyone know a song about a middle-aged woman?
