    This popular song is now widely considered as an Irish ballad, but was written in 1875 by a German-American, Thomas Westendorf. It has subsequently been recorded by hundreds of singers, from Elvis and Bing Crosby to every Irish ballad singer who ever lived -- it's particularly associated with Joseph Locke.
