It'sbeen some months since any activity on this group, so am posting a link to a March, Strathspey and Reel I have just added to my SoundCloud page. The tunes came via Nigel Gatherer's Mixed Instrument classes and are Nigel's choice of set - I liked the three as a set so had a go at them on Octave. https://soundcloud.com/user9128887/m...hspey-and-reel
Nice set John! I play all three of those tunes but not in a set together! Perhaps we can enliven this group a little again! Best wishes, Richard
Well pleased to hear from Scottish folks - only a Celt in SA! So sorry! Please keep this group alive! If anyone has links to Celtic tunes to share I would love to learn them!
Richard, that is an encouraging response - let's try to keep the group not only alive but kicking! Vanilla, as far as learning the tunes, just go to The Session website http://www.thesession.org or to Nigel Gatherer's great Scottish site http://www.nigelgatherer.com The Session has loads of files in abc and standard formats and Nigel's site has excellent pdf files and he also offers books of tunes to download free.
We just swallowed the haggis as the family recently has come to understand that grandpa was truly from Dublin (as said) but before that was from Scotland (never said.) From the Scot side of the Kennedy clan after all. Much more to find out about all of that. Naturally, we're all reeling Mick
I saw John's reference to the Group on a Cafe thread, so here I am. An exiled Scot, but nonetheless.... ron
Welcome Ron... good to see you here! Now, to reinvigorate this group...
Deleted - see post below with YouTube link properly added!
Good to see you joining here too, Ron. The sudden flurry of activity has prompted me to post a link to my recent YouTube clip "The Hills of Lorne" which features the three Old Bores - Derek Macdonald on accordion, John Thomson on concertina and myself on guitar and mandolin. This is already posted over on the forum in the Celtic, UK etc section, but I hope to encourage others to post their offerings here to keep the group active.
