The ornamentation on this piece required three finger picking. It is avery popular number, played on a Russian instrument.
Good loving rendition Maudlin. The problem with this tune is that it is hardly played as a normal, beautiful session piece any more. Normally, when it's late at night, the first serious musicians start to leave and there's not much audience left either, we play this very fast as kind of a last order bell. And after that, we play The Mason's Apron I have tried to capture the typical mood by playing it on the Ultralight Traveller with a Vox AC30 Amplug.
Back in the old days, the Chieftains used Drowsy Maggie to introduce the members of the group so it became their signature piece.

Bertram’s outrageous version is impressive, of course. The acoustic versions are more my cup of tea. Both sound great.
