Mandolin Mondays #123 w/ Special Guest Ashley Broder

Rate this Entry
This week on Mandolin Mondays, West Coast mandolinist and composer Ashley Broder brings us an exciting original piece played on her fantastic Apitius mandolin.

Ashley is an incredibly talented, classically trained musician who draws from a wide breadth of styles in her playing and compositions. Her band the Syncopaths exemplify this diversity, combining Scottish, Irish, and American Folk musics with Classical and Jazz sensibilities to create a unique and engaging sound. In addition to performing and touring across the US and the UK, she also does work as a composer. Currently she is working on a long form composition inspired by the coast of Southern California called the Channel Islands Suite to be premiered in 2019. Read about it here: http://www.ashbroder.com/composition/

Her most recent release is a stunning instrumental recording called Two Trees full of compelling original melodies and beautiful playing. Check it out here: https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/ashleybroder

If I thought Oliver could possibly ship her skills and tone out with his next mandolin, I'd buy it on the spot. Love her playing!!!!

I think I understand that hers was the last one of his previous round of building (before his hiatus), and was offered to her incomplete. A friend of mine says he completed the finishing (and perhaps glueing?). Would like to know the entire story.

She sounds great. Her tone is so deep and rich I had to double check to make sure it wasn't a mandola.

Beautiful composition. That musician & mandolin were made for each other. Looking forward to more from her!

She is one of my favorite musicians. Seems to approach the mandolin like no one else out there.

I've always loved Ashley's sound, for many years now. It is the player, though, not the instrument, I had one of her previous mandolins at one point, an A Collings, and it sure sounded less attractive when I played it (even in the lower tuning that she used then).
