Mandolin Mondays #116 w/ Special Guest Jordan Ramsey

Rating: 1 votes, 5.00 average.
This week on Mandolin Mondays, Boulder, Colorado mandolinist Jordan Ramsey plays us a crushing solo arrangement of Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 on this beautiful 2016 Ellis F5.

Over the past 15 years, Jordan has been establishing himself as a monster player. Today, he is one of the premier modern proponents of McReynolds-style crosspicking in the country. In 2016, Jordan took first place in the National Mandolin Championship in Winfield, KS, where he won the lovely instrument featured in this video. Jordan continues to have strong ties with the festival--he says that he learned this Brahms arrangement from video footage taken of David Peters by Bob Gray at Walnut Valley back in the 90's."

These days you can hear him tour and play with the bluegrass band Ragged Union as well as other ensembles in the CO, area. Jordan also teaches online through the website Mandolins Heal the World--you can check out his video lessons here: https://mandolinshealtheworld.com/categories/20160923_1

Jordan is, and has been, one of my most favorite "unknown" players in the US. Glad to see his stature is growing.
