Rating: 1 votes, 1.00 average.
Classical mandolinist Marilynn Mair brings us some lovely Brazilian music played on her unique Woodley mandolin for this week's Mandolin Mondays.

Marilynn is a distinguished mandolin performer, author, and educator based in the Rhode Island area. Over the years, she has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the White House, and the Lincoln Center. She has released two dozen highly acclaimed solo and ensemble CDs, and appeared on numerous compilations.

She has written 3 successful mandolin method books. Her most recent is entitled The 100 -- Techniques & Exercises for Mandolinists -- How to play faster, cleaner, louder, more musically, and with greater confidence. Check it out HERE

Additionally, in 1986 Marilynn founded the American Mandolin and Guitar Summer School--an annual ensemble-based work shop for choro and classical players with fretted instruments. The event continues strong today--registration is currently open for this year HERE

Here, Marilynn gives us the scoop on the music in this video, "The piece I arranged and recorded is called "Gaucho," by Chiquinha Gonzaga (1847-1935), the incredibly talented and independent early Brazilian woman composer and conductor. I did this solo arrangement especially for Mandolin Mondays. I've recorded a trio version of it on my "Leave Something Unexplained" CD, and the piece is included as a leadsheet in my Mel Bay book, "Brazilian Choro," that also has a recording of it by a Brazilian choro group."
