CMM Quarterly Magazine Features Instrument Builders

Rating: 1 votes, 5.00 average.
We received an email from Mark Boucher who is with the magazine CMM Quarterly. CMM's current issue deals with musical instrument building, and in this special issue, our readers will recognize some familiar names:

Dave Smith, Smith Creek Mandolins
Greg Deering, Deering Banjos
Jeffery Elliott, Elliott Guitars
Greg Byers, Byers Guitars
Jonathan Hiller, interesting article on composite graphics vs. wood
JEM magazine, article about Luis and Clark composite instruments
MAN (manufacturing) Magazine, article about aluminum electric guitars

We asked Mark to explain to our readers a little about the focus of CMM magazine. In his words:

"CMM stands for Coordinate Measuring Machine.

These are extremely accurate machines that measure into microns. They may even have lasers on them. What they do is take a CAD model that represents the part and measures the real part and compares the two to show deviation.

The idea behind this issue was to show the contrast from the micron world my readers live in to the craftsman world and the beauty and artistry that goes into each instrument."

We thank Mark for getting in touch and invite those interested to visit the CMM Quarterly web site.
