Mandolin Mondays #386 w/ Special Guest Laetitia Barbera

Rate this Entry
This week on Mandolin Mondays we're joined by Italian mandolinist Laetitia Barbera playing "Pelagias's Song" from the movie Captain Corelli's mandolin.

Born in Taormina, a beautiful town in Sicily, Laetitia began her studies in piano, double bass and mandolin at the Messina Conservatory at a very young age. She's a member of the centennial "Orchestra a plettro di Taormina." Laetitia developed her career in Europe, playing with the Orchestra de púas in Paris and London. She currently resides in Barcelona where she actively participates in the music groups Ars Tunae, Trinacria Duo, Maracuyá and Amoria Ensemble. One of her missions is to play Italian music with an Italian lyrical repertoire, Neapolitan classical songs and popular songs from the South of Italy, having collaborated with several tenors of renowned importance. She also has played with the orchestra of the Gran Teatro de Liceo as part of the "Romeo y Juliet" by Prokofiev and “Otello” by G. Verdi with the director G. Dudamel.

Here's a word from Laetitia about this video, "This is my personal arrangement from this soundtrack, included in my concert project: Cinema: Amore Mio. This concert is played by my DUO TRINACRIA. We made a show that includes video projections of movies where the mandolin and Italian culture have a special role, explained with soundtracks from different movies. An interesting anecdote from this movie is that Nicholas Cage (Antonio Corelli) learned to play the mandolin for this production and he performed all the five mandolin songs himself during the movie."
