Returning to Mandolin Mondays this week we have NYC mandolinist Joe Brent of 9 Horses and Adhyâropa Records with us playing a beautiful original tune called "NaNo" on his Adam Buchwald (Circle Strings) 5 string electric mandolin.



Joe is a true gem of a mandolin player. His work extends from collaborations with the New York Philharmonic to the legendary Woody Allen. His band 9 Horses combines classical, jazz, and folk music styles like no other ensemble on the scene today. And on top of his prolific touring and recording schedule, he is an amazing advocate for the mandolin and acoustic music scene.

Since his last appearance, Joe has also started a new venture called Adhyâropa Records which is a 100% artist-owned record label founded in 2021 by the members of 9 Horses. Check out their incredible work for the mandolin community here: https://www.adhyaroparecords.com/

Here's a word from Joe about this video, "The tune is called "NaNo" (named for our friend Nadje Noordhuis), from 9 Horses' 1st album Perfectest Herald which folks can get from our Bandcamp, along with our newer album Omegah. And in this video I'm using an Adam Buchwald (Circle Strings) 5 mandolin with Almuse pickups through a Keeley Compressor, Creation Audio Holy Fire, Keeley 30ms, Boss RC1, and into a Vox AC30. Miked with a Royer R10 and a UA 610 mic pre into Pro Tools, then a touch of EQ. I'm using one of those Bluebird milk picks which are fun, happy to give them a shoutout. 9 Horses is currently working on new stuff but Adhyaropa has a ton of things coming up including that beautiful Ethan Setiawan record."
