Mandolin Mondays #261 w/ Special Guest Laura-Beth Salter

Rate this Entry
To start a New Year of Mandolin Mondays off right, Glaswegian singer, songwriter, and mandolinist Laura-Beth Salter brings us a set of original tunes played on her lovely Krishot Mandolins F5 built by Eduard Krištůfek.

A well kent face on the Glasgow Folk and Roots scene, mandolinist, tutor, singer and composer Laura-Beth is a founding member of award winning folk bands The Shee & Kinnaris Quintet. She was nominated for the MG Alba Composer of the year award in 2013 after the success of her Celtic Connections commission and debut album ‘Breathe.’ She is an active tutor of mandolin and youth projects all over the UK. Years of sessioning in a musical melting pot, she’s now involved in a range of performance, composition and teaching projects within the Scottish traditional music scene – The Shee, VOX, Jenn & Laura-Beth, Kinnaris Quintet, The Daddy Naggins, and From The Ground.

Most recently, Laura-Beth recorded an EP called Beginnings with her duo From the Ground. Be sure to give a listen here: https://fromtheground.bandcamp.com/a...-ep?from=embed

Here's a word from Laura about the mandolin she's playing in this video, "The mandolin is a Krishot (hand built by Eduard Krištůfek from the Czech Republic) that I bought from dearly departed Arthur Robinson. He used to take a stall of beautiful mandolins around the UK bluegrass events, and I fell in love with this one as soon as I played it at Didmarton festival. I was a very broke student at the time, and he helped me out by letting me pay it off over time. I think it's the sister model to Charlotte Carrivick's - mine's number 306, built in 2005. I knew I wanted it, but then Mike Compton had a play and said how wonderful it was so that 100% swayed me!"
