Rating: 1 votes, 5.00 average.
This week on Mandolin Mondays John Cloyd Miller of the NC, duo Zoe & Cloyd brings us a bit of klezmer-grass played on his The Bluegrass mandolin.

John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as an Artist Fellowship recipient for songwriting from the North Carolina Arts Council.

Additionally, Zoe & Cloyd have a brand new album that was released this past September on Organic Records. The project is called I Am Your Neighbor, and you can listen to it here: https://open.spotify.com/album/4Lp9C6CIZYxPQDM6GqMupy

Here's a word from John about the tune in this video, "'Zisa Meydele' is a klezmer flavored tune that I started writing on the mandolin. My wife and music partner in Zoe & Cloyd, Natalya Zoe Weinstein, helped finish it up and we ended up putting it on our current record, I Am Your Neighbor. The song title was inspired by our daughter and means "Sweet Little Girl" in Yiddish."

Nice tune! I'm a big fan of klezmer music, being the mandolin guy in Eisner's klezmorim. So I'm surprised when this genre 'pops up' in the big world of mandolin (read bluegrass) cafe. Maybe it's not as marginalized as I thought... cool.

Yet another style of mandolin music I look forward to delving into. Thanks!

Awesome! I loved that eyebrow raise at the start, and the picking lived up to the expectation that the eyebrow created....
