This week on Mandolin Mondays, Rich DelGrosso, who is widely regarded as the leading exponent of mandolin blues, joins us for an original 12-bar played on his National resonator Mandolin.
Based in Houston, TX, Rich is an accomplished mandolin blues teacher and performer. Over the past 30 years, he's been nominated for eight Blues Music Awards, and received a special "Keeping the Blues Alive Award" from the Blues Foundation in Memphis commemorating his monumental efforts in blues history and education.
Rich is also a prolific writer who has written articles for such publications as the Blues Revue, Living Blues, Mandolin Magazine, Frets, and Sing Out! He as also published serval mandolin instructional books, including this Mandolin Blues book. Check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/Mandolin-Blue.../dp/0634072498
Here's a word from Rich about this video, "I am playing the latest model of National resonator mandolin, a style of mandolin popularized by National Resophonic Instruments in the 20’s. I am accustomed to playing it with an electric Texan blues band in a dark juke joint that smells of stale beer and cigarette smoke. My kitchen at home is a much nicer environment!"
