Mandolin Mondays #155 w/ Special Guest Roberto Cubero

Rate this Entry
Spanish mandolin guru Roberto Cubero effortlessly combines the ancient music of Spain with the tradition of Bill Monroe with this beautifully rhythmic traditional piece played on his Gibson F5-G.

Originally from Guadalajara, Roberto now lives in Barcelona where he plays music with his brother in the mandolin guitar duo Los Hermanos Cubero. They've receive accolades including the Premio Europeo de Nueva Creación de Folklore 2010 award. Since then they've released a number of compelling disks that display this same tasteful blend of American and Spanish folk traditions. Check out their catalog here: https://loshermanoscubero.bandcamp.com/

Here's a word from Roberto about this video, "The tune is an ancient traditional Spanish, from Castille, melody from the repertory of Dulzaina (a traditional double reed wind instrument). It's in a 3/4 rhythm dance called Jota, very popular along the Iberian Peninsula. So the title just means what it is: an old Jota
I play a 2012 David Harvey Gibson F5-G, aka Tonelilla (facebook.com/tonelilla) "
