• Monroe Mandolin Camp Names Silas Powell to Inaugural Apprentice Program

    Nashville, Tenn. — 16 year-old Silas Powell has been named recipient of The Monroe Mandolin Camp inaugural Apprentice Program for future teachers. As part of his appointment he will be coached and mentored by world-class players and instructors.

    Powell has a long history of playing traditional bluegrass style, and in particular, Monroe-style mandolin. Having been taught by Mike Compton for years, and having attended MMC since 2013, he continues to receive praise for his sensitivity and feel of original bluegrass music.

    In additional to his participation in the IBMA Kids Program, he is a seasoned bluegrass festival performer and inspires many with his musical mastery. In additional to mandolin he is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist as well.

    Monroe Mandolin Camp is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization with the missions of creating a living musical memorial to Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, preserving and promoting the root source and heritage of this original American art form, and sharing that with the world through this instructional camp.

    This year's annual Monroe Mandolin Camp will be held September 18-22 at the DuBose Conference Center in Monteagle, Tenn.
