    Metamora, Ind. — The 6th Annual Metamora Mandolin Gathering, a one-day event offering eight workshops, two jam sessions, and several instrument builders from around the region will be held here on March 30 at the MPA Opry Barn, 19189 Pennington Road.

    This year's featured instructor is Don Julin, author of the best-selling Mandolin For Dummies and founder of the educational website Mandolins Heal The World. Julin will lead two workshops with the topics "Building a Bluegrass Break," and "What Goes Up, Must Come Down."

    For more than 30 years Don Julin has been playing and teaching mandolin. He has released 5 solo CDs and recorded with guitarist Billy Strings as the duo Billy Strings & Don Julin. A certified Wernick Method instructor, when not on the road teaching, playing or promoting Mandolins Heal the World, he offers private mandolin instruction over the internet from his home in Traverse City, Michigan.

    Don is comfortable with students of all levels. Bluegrass, Swing, Blues, Improvisation, Alternate Picking, Strumming Patterns, Fiddle Tunes and Basic Timing are all topics he has taught in his career as instructor and workshop leader.

    The day ends up with an evening show, open to the public, featuring the instructors, the New Florida Blues Band, and the New Trad Ramblers.

    There is no charge for visiting the instrument builders or taking part in jam sessions. Registration is required for workshops and on-line registration is available at The Gathering web site below or a form can be downloaded to mail.

    Registration will be accepted at the door on the day of the event. Evening Show admission is $8 at the door. Registration for any workshop includes admission to the evening show as well.
