Now in its 4th year, this one-of-a-kind camp offers masterclass instruction in mandolin, fiddle, banjo, by an internationally renowned staff.
This year the camp is proud to announce their inaugural "Wo-MON Scholarship," created to honor the many women bluegrass players who forged the way within the bluegrass, and to encourage girls and women of all ages in their pursuit of traditional bluegrass music.
The announcement of the scholarship occurs today, International Women's Day, celebrated March 8. Female applicants of all ages are encouraged to apply by sending in a video of themselves playing a Bill Monroe tune on mandolin, fiddle, or banjo (application instructions follow).
Camp Staff
The 2017 Monroe Mandolin staff includes Mike Compton, Skip Gorman, Sharon Gilchrist, Lauren Price, Adam Tanner, Rich del Grosso, Mark Royal. The mandolin staff will be joined by Buddy Spicher, Glen Duncan, Brian Christianson, and Alan O'Bryant, bringing excellence in fiddle and banjo to our participants. The camp also provides a trio of world-class luthiers with Paul Duff, Tom Ellis, and Will Kimble, who will be available for repair, set-up, and instrument needs.
Entering the Wo-MON Scholarship
- Submissions open to females of any age.
- A Bill Monroe tune submission may be on mandolin, fiddle, or banjo. One submission per individual.
- Video under 4 minutes.
- Please announce your name and song title on the video. You may play solo or with accompaniment.
- First 25 submissions accepted for judging (you will receive an email with confirmation if your video is accepted.)
- Upload video to YouTube and email the link to: monroemandolincamp@gmail.com. In subject line of email, please write "Wo-MON Scholarship."
- Submissions will be open from March 8 - April 8, 2017.
- Winner announced by May 1, 2017.
- Winner awarded a full scholarship including tuition, meal plan, lodging, and camp T-shirt.
- Transportation to and from Camp is the responsibility of the winner.
- Winner of the Wo-MON Camp Scholarship announced on Mandolin Cafe, May 1.
The Wo-MON Scholarship will be judged by an esteemed panel of musicians, including Ms. Julia La Bella, who performed with Bill Monroe from 1976-1982, 1994-1996; Ms. Tammy Rogers King, fiddler and vocalist of The Steeldrivers; Mrs. Cindy Baucum, celebrated host of "Knee Deep In Bluegrass," a nationally syndicated radio station; Ms. Lauren Price, mandolinist with The Price Sisters; Mrs. Kathy Nichols, President of the Great Lakes Acoustic Music Association, and Ms. Kathy Kallick, singer & songwriter with The Kathy Kallick Band, and a Grammy & IBMA award winner for True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe.

About the 2017 Monroe Mandolin Camp
This year's Camp presentations include a Triple Fiddle Demonstration, a Clogging Seminar, and Tone-Woods Presentation. The program is held at the Scarritt-Bennett Center in downtown Nashville, a convenient setting with close proximity to the Nashville International Airport, and some of Nashville's most iconic music shops, museums, and venues.
On-site, participants can enjoy lodging, meals, instruction, jam sessions, special presentations, and quality connection time all within the Gothic halls and classrooms of the Scarritt-Bennett Center.
The MonManCamp is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization with the missions of creating a living musical memorial to Bill Monroe, the Father of Blue Grass Music, preserving the root source and heritage of this original American art form, and sharing that with the world through this instructional camp.
