    San Diego, Calif. — The 5th Annual San Diego Classical Mandolin Camp returns July 25–31, 2016 to explore the depth and breadth of the classical mandolin, from baroque to modern times, through five days of classes, orchestra rehearsals, and evening concerts.

    SDCMC is very excited to welcome French virtuoso, Julien Martineau, as the SDCMC special guest artist. Julien has a masters degree in Musicology from theUniversité de la Sorbonne in Paris, and in 2013 the Académie des Arts, Lettreset Sciences du Languedoc awarded him the Deodat de Séverac Prize. His latest recording in 2013 is Raffaele Calace’s Preludes for solo mandolin.

    Also joining the SDCMC artist staff this year will be musicologist and mandolinist, Dr. Stefanie Acquavella-Rauch. She has been performing for over 15 years and is the musical director of the ensemble "Spätlese," a state orchestra of the plucked-string federation of the German state of Hesse.

    SDCMC strives to create a fun musical experience for mandolinists of all ages and abilities.Chris, Julien, and Stefanie are all fantastic teachers and performers. They will lead you through a well thought out curriculum of the classical mandolin's technique and repertoire, as well as music history. Throughout the week, there will be featured artist concerts with the final evening culminating with the SDCMC orchestra performance.This year, SDCMC will be joined by the Kensington Baroque Orchestra for a fantastic evening of Early Music on historic instruments. Come join Chris Acquavella and the SDCMC staff for an exciting five days of mandolin creativity and education.

    Tuition for the SDCMC is $425, which includes breakfast, all classes, orchestra rehearsals and performance, music/class materials and evening concerts. The SDCMC is also offering partial attendance options this year (e.g... just classes or just orchestra/concerts). Tuition cost does not include lunch/dinner or lodging.     2016 SDCMC Artist Bios

    Chris Acquavella - graduated First Class Honors from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. Chris mandolin studied under the instruction of Alison Stephens and composition with Andrew Poppy. He won the Wolfsan Foundation Music Award in 2004 and the TCM Trust Silver Medal in 2006. Chris is a member of the Ger Mandolin Orchestra and performs world-wide in a solo and chamber music capacity. He concertizes with Duo Acquavella, Detmold Landestheater, Ensemble LippeBarock, GER Mandolin Orchestra, Acquavella-Dzagnidze Duo, Bach Collegium San Diego, San Diego Operaand the San Diego Symphony.He has been an instructor at the River of the West Camp, the 2011 & 2013 Mandolin Symposiums and several CMSA Conventions. Chris is a published composer of new mandolin repertoire.His works are available on Joachim-Trekel-Musikverlag, Hamburg and Astute Music Ltd, UK.

    Julien Martineau - At the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris, he graduated with a master degree in musicology, and in 2013, Académie des Arts, Lettreset Sciences du Languedoc awarded him the Deodat de Séverac Prize. Julien Martineau has performed as a soloist in many prominent concert halls and at numerous prestigious music festivals. He has performed with many orchestras, including the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, the Orchestre de Chambre of Toulouse and the Ensemble Baroque of Toulouse. He is a regular participant in the musical seasons of the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Opéra de Paris, the Opéra de Lyon, and the Orchestras des Pays de la Loire, Radio France and the Suisse Romande in Geneva. In 2005, Julien Martineau joined the staff of the Conservatoire à Rayonnementrégional (CRR) in Toulouse as a professor of mandolin. His latest recording in 2013 is Raffaele Calace’s Preludes for mandolin solo.

    Dr. Stefanie Acquavella-Rauch - has been performing as a soloist and with several ensembles around the world for over 15 years. Stefanie is one part of Duo Acquavella and a member of the world music ensemble Vinorosso. As a regular guest at various international courses she teaches the mandolin and the mandola as well as music history. Stefanie is the musical director of the ensemble “Spätlese”, a state orchestra of the plucked-string federation of the German state of Hesse. Apart from being a classical mandolinist, Dr. Stefanie Acquavella-Rauch is a musicologist at the Musicological Seminar of the Universität Paderborn and the Hochschulefür Musik Detmold, Germany.

    Kensington Baroque Orchestra - is a community ensemble made up of professional and amateur musicians focusing on historically informed Baroque performance using period instruments and techniques.Kensington Baroque Orchestra’s artistic director, Ramon Negron, is a baroque violist at American Bach Soloist, Adjunct Faculty Viola and Chamber Music Instructor at the University of San Diego, and Music Instructor at Ramon Negron Music Studio, as well as having years of symphonic and chamber music experience in his native Puerto Rico and the United States.
