Grand Rapids, Mich. — West Michigan entrepreneur and musician, Jason Wheeler, announced that registration has now begun for the Great Lakes Music Camp (GLMC), a three-day acoustic music camp and benefit concert held at Camp Blodgett (West Olive, MI) on October 6-8. 2017.
The camp, which features some of the finest acoustic music instructors in the country, will include workshops, lessons, hosted jams, staff concerts and benefit concerts on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8. The GLMC has partnered with local nonprofit The Grand River Water Festival (GRWF) who will serve as the fiduciary for the fundraising event.
GLMC Executive Director, Jason Wheeler stated, "We are so excited to bring the Great Lakes Music Camp to West Michigan. This camp is designed with smaller classes in mind so the interaction level is high, which means campers will have a ton of time to play and hang with the instructors. We want everyone to leave the camp inspired by the music and revitalized by the serenity of Camp Blodgett."
The GLMC will offer guitar, mandolin, and fiddle instruction from award winning musicians, Don Julin (author of Mandolin for Dummies), Darol Anger (founding member/violinist of award-winning David Grisman Quintet), Kenny Smith, Betse Ellis, Ross Martin, Matt Flinner, Hayes Griffin, and Bruce Ling.
A large benefit concert on Saturday, October 7 will raise money for the non-profits. The concert will feature The Matt Flinner Trio, Don Julin, and Fauxgrass. The GLMC will host a contra dance and old-time concert on Sunday, October 8. The public welcome to these portions of the camp.
Tickets will go on sale for these concerts immediately. Proceeds from the camp and the concerts will go to the GRWF and Camp Blodgett.
The Great Lakes Music Camp (GLMC) was created in 2017 by mandolinist/instructor, Jason Wheeler. A fine team of amazing human beings have since come to the table to create a music camp that offers classes, performances, discussions, hosted jams, workshops and demonstrations for the purpose of inspiring music lovers to keep music dear and pass it along through generations.
The camp has partnered with a fiduciary, The Grand River Water Festival (501c3). The partnership allows for the raising of funds for programs surrounding traditional music education and local water quality issues in West Michigan. Funds raised through the public concert, sponsorship, and private contributions are donated by the GLMC to both Camp Blodgett and The Grand River Water Festival.
