Providence Mandolin Orchestra with guitarist Adam Levin
The Providence Mandolin Orchestra, directed by Mark Davis, returns to the Arts in the Village Series in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, to present the US premiere of Javier Riba's 'Acerca de la Felicidad' - an award-winning Spanish concerto for guitar and plucked string orchestra. The piece will feature the brilliant young concert guitarist Adam Levin.
Mr. Levin is well-suited for this role as he has produced a four-volume CD series called '21st Century Spanish Guitar’ on the Naxos label. An avid chamber musician, he performs with William Knuth (violin) in Duo Sonidos and Jacob Reuven (mandolin) in Duo Mantar. Levin is professor of guitar at the University of Rhode Island where he directs the URI Guitar Festival, and also teaches at UMass-Boston.
The program also offers pieces by Hans Gal ('Capriccio'), Victor Kioulaphides ('Peripatos'), Stanley Meyers ('Cavatina' arr. R. Margo), Joel Hobbs ('Memories of the Future'), G. Manente ('Reverie de Poete'), and H. Yoshimizu ('Prelude Two'). The Boston-based composer Owen Hartford is represented by three works - "Latin Sketches,' 'History of a Texas Wildflower,' and 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Samba.'
