Wake the Dead at the Dance Palace in Pt. Reyes Station: Acoustic Celebration of the Grateful Dead
WAKE THE DEAD, The Bay Area's own Celtic All-Star Summer of Love party band, is returning to the Dance Palace in Pt. Reyes Station on Saturday, April 13, dishing up a raft of sizzling new material from their most recent fourth CD, Deal. This hot sextet combines Irish jigs and reels with the songs of the Grateful Dead and other ’60s iconic bands, delivering them with unique power and joy. Soaring vocal harmonies and daring instrumentals fuel Wake the Dead's singular groove engine, delighting Celtic fans, Deadheads, and folkies alike.
With 19 years of ever-wider success and touring, the World's First Celtic All-Star Grateful Dead Jam Band has grown to embrace the entire Summer of Love. The Airplane, the Youngbloods, Buffalo Springfield, and even the Beatles are now joyful parts of the mix. Local fans are guaranteed many brand-new surprises.

Retrospective Concert for Composer Owen Hartford
Seven musical groups will come to Milton, MA for a retrospective concert honoring Milton composer Owen Hartford. Hartford has played the mandolin or the fiddle in three of the groups. While he has composed for the groups he has played with, his compositions for mandolin ensembles have been performed around the world. Mark Davis, Director of the Providence Mandolin Orchestra, says Hartford is the most prolific composer for mandolin orchestras in North America. His pieces have won prizes in international competitions.
The retrospective concert will be held at the Unitarian church at 535 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA e at 2:30 p.m. on the second Saturday of April. It is free, though donations for the musical groups are welcome. They include Al Fresco Mandolin Quartet, Enigmatica, L'Esperance Mandolin Ensemble, Mair-Martel-Moser Trio, New American Mandolin Ensemble, Providence Mandolin Orchestra, and the Gloucester Hornpipe & Clog Society.

Oregon Mandolin Orchestra Spring Celebration Concert
The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra is launching its 10th season with a Spring Celebration Concert in downtown Portland, featuring a guest performance by the internationally renowned Wiesenekker-Lysov Trio.
The concert program, crafted by the orchestra’s music director, Christian McKee, will explore a musical sampler ranging from folk and samba to a Vivaldi concerto and a contemporary Japanese piece wistfully looking at the changing seasons.
The orchestra also will perform “Turvy,” an original piece composed by McKee.
The Wiesenekker-Lysov Trio's repertoire draws from all eras and styles, from the baroque and classical periods to the blues, polkas and klezmer. This performance will feature them as players in various formats, and the orchestra will perform several of their arrangements, as well.

This is a concert in honor of Owen Hartford, one of the most prolific modern American composers for plucked strings ensemble. Six ensembles – the Al Fresco Mandolin Quartet, Enigmatica (directed by Marilyn Mair), the L’Esperance Mandolin Ensemble (directed by Josh Bell), the Mair-Martel-Moser Trio, the New American Mandolin Ensemble and the Providence Mandolin Orchestra (both directed by Mark Davis), and the Gloucester Hornpipe & Clog Society – will participate.
