Italian Mandolin Heroes in America --PowerPoint Presentation with Vintage Recordings
Sheri Mignano Crawford's long awaited history of the Italian mandolin music publishers will be presented in the Flamingo room at 10A. The Classical Mandolin Society of America sponsors this event. Day passes are available if you are not registered.
"Italian Mandolin Heroes in America" is the first comprehensive survey of Italian mandolin-playing music publishers. Her PowerPoint presentation features several dozen slides from her book, including never seen before photographs dating back to 1889 in Philadelphia and culminating in the 1950s with California mandolin and accordion music publishers.
Saunter into the long-shuttered music stores, meet the musicians, composers, and entrepreneurs who allied themselves into building a vast repertoire of village dances. Each geographical location will feature a representative vintage dance to accommpany the chronological survey of how the mandolin dances evolved. Travel back to Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Italian East Harlem, Manhattan's Little Italy, Providence, RI., Steubenville, OH., and the San Francisco Bay Area.
