Jazz mandolin with Tom Bekeny and the Missing Man Quartet, Albany CA
To jazz enthusiasts in the SF Bay Area--The Missing Man Quartet will return to Britt--Marie in Albany CA with some straight ahead jazz this coming Sunday Feb. 11 (11am-1pm, 1369 Solano Ave.). We (Greg Reginato, guitar; Craig Griffeath bass; Bill Lanphier drums and Tom Bekeny mandolin) will be enhancing your brunch experience with generous helpings of blues, ballads, bossa nova, be bop, and swing.
I'm really excited about playing with these great musicians and if you stop by you'll immediately know why. Veteran musician Bill Lanphier is a super sensitive and tasteful drummer. He is also known in the music world as a bass player with some impressive creds having played bass on Madonna's Virgin Tour, the Rippingtons, and in Pat Sajak's house band to name just a few.
Greg Reginato, a great soloist and wonderful accompanist, is a graduate of Berklee Music School and has been a stalwart on the Bay Area jazz scene for many years as a player and educator.
The multitalented Craig Griffeath has played many different styles of bass for the last 40+ years and also plays keyboard and uke. Craig adds a unique voice to the band as he is featured heavily as a soloist on his 7-string electric bass.
And of special interest to the mandolin world, The Missing Man Quartet, is one of the still relatively rare ensembles that features mandolin in a mainstream jazz setting. These days, you might hear mandolin in gypsy jazz settings, in swing bands, and, for several decades, we've heard mandolins in jazz tinged "new acoustic" music settings. But we are different. Come out and see what I mean.
