Italian Mandolin Heroes in America: a slide show with musical examples
In anticipation of my upcoming book "Italian Mandolin Heroes in America" I will debut the story of Italian mandolin music publishers and the evolution of ballo liscio music using images from the many, many families who have contributed their documents, family portraits of the musicians, and sheet music. Vintage historic mandolin recordings will accompany the slides along with 1920s piano rolls of the music. I'm bringing original sheet music from the publishers and a 1905 Antonio Grauso Neapolitan mandolin for the display table.

The show will give a chronological overview starting with De Stefano in Philadelphia, all the Manhattan publishers (there are many of them!), Providence, RI, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The handing off of mandolin music to the accordion music catalog business is an utterly fascinating complex story. Come see the men (and one woman!!) who made it happen! They are the Italian Mandolin Heroes in America. This exciting slide show will begin at 5:00P with a break at 6:00 and conclude by 7:00P You'll be the first to glimpse what I've been doing for the past four years! Just kick back with a cappuccino or a beer and enjoy the show. SUNDAY, MARCH 4, 2018. Redwood Cafe, downtown Cotati, in northern California--about 1 hr north of San Francisco.
