Some exciting happenings in 2018 as we hurl along in our 22nd year of operation. Are we going to slow down? Hell no, we're stepping on the gas pedal. In the first 3-4 months expect to see two premium giveaways of mandolins from two of the most prominent names in the building community. Sorry, not giving out the names of those builders but these models will have you drooling. Only thing we can really tell is the plan right now they'll both be A models in the $3K range. ...
Tom Waits is one of my favorite songwriters, and I’ve wanted to do a song off of Rain Dogs for a while now. Here’s my take on his tune Jockey Full of Bourbon.
Hey guys! I wrote this song a couple years ago with some great friends in Morgantown, WV, and we actually recorded it on a record. I was feeling a little nostalgic this week so I thought I'd throw together this quick arrangement. Enjoy! All the writing credits of this 7/4 funk tune: Alex Heflin John Posey Eli Weidman Greg Thurman Oh, and if you're interested, here's the lead sheet: ...
Hey guys! I went after another traditional tune this week. Here's my rendition of Goodnight Irene.

Hey guys! I'm a huge fan of Julian Lage and I have been listening to his trio album, Arclight, since it was released. I couldn't help but cover his arrangement of the Spike Hughes tune, "Nocturne." I believe this tune was originally recorded in 1933 by Spike Hughes (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), and I immediately fell in love with both his and Julian's arrangements. I hope you dig it!
Hey guys! I posted over in the jazz forum as well, but I thought I would throw the videos up here. I'm putting out a duo new record on May 5th with the incredibly talented Mike Gurrola on bass. Here is a live take of the record's title track!
Hey guys. I know I didn't post here this last Friday. Moving forward I'm only going to post the videos to this blog that are more mandolin relevant. This is another silly transcription I did a while ago. This Friday I'm putting up another song from a video game, so I won't put it up here, but I have another jazz mandolin video that I'll share!
Hey guys! I couldn't resist doing another song from the new Zelda game. This one is more of a Django type waltz, so you may enjoy. Next week though, I'm coming back with a tune written by Ben Wendel, an absolutely amazing saxophone player and composer.
Hyello. This week I put together a minimalist arrangement of a song from one of my favorite game franchises ever. I always include a section of improv so of course I took a chorus over it. Next week I'll be back with a combination of a Django song and another. See you then!
