So who is your favorite Zep mandolinist? I'm going to stoke the fire a bit: I must say that I was impressed with Page's version of BoE on the unledded album.

...but then again, I'm fully engulfed in the mandolin and I need to take a side. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Last I knew, Page couldn't play the mandolin, and tuned it in fourths to make it a tiny guitar. Cheater. I therefore nominate Mr. Jones! If someone here knows differently, I'm willing to be corrected...

I'm going to defend Jimmy Page. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif Please don't read this as endorsement.

When I first learned the BoE, I learned it while I knew basically nothing about the instrument. For as while, I always questioned if I did this correctly. Maybe this is why, I stayed away from the mandolin for the most part. I wasn't sure if what I was playing was correct.

However after seeing what I saw on the Unledded Special on VH1, I felt as if what I learned was confirmed and I learned the BoE correctly. For the most part, what Page playing was pretty much how I taught myself to play.

Maybe JP realized that he need to come up to JPJ's level http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
