Thanks for looking! My latest batch had an F5 and three octaves. Octaves have comprised roughly 75% of my output this past year, and I'm having a great time with them.

Beautiful photographs. I particularly like the #6555 art-deco (?) headstock, which is a lovely, original design. Are those independent tuning machines on that one? I've often wondered why independent tuners aren't used more often on custom instruments.

I'm not sure about that, Bill, but I certainly appreciate all the kind comments.

Yes, those are just Gotoh mini guitar tuners, with ebony mandolin buttons on them. They are a little bulkier and heavier than mandolin tuners, but are smoother.

I have to say, I am very impressed! I'm a bit of a scroll snob, meaning I'm very particular about the shape and execution of the scroll. Many good builders who build otherwise great mandolins still seem to struggle with getting a scroll just right (or they choose a shape that just looks wrong to my eye). Yours is absolutely gorgeous, and is exactly the way a scroll should look to me. All the other details on that F5 look perfect as well. Dang good job with the photos, especially the way the lighting reflects off the glossy finish to accentuate the recurve and profile of the front/back. Those kinds of details are hard to capture in a photo, but yours look great.

Beautiful instruments Mr. Mowry and those pegheads could just about sell those instruments without seeing anything else.

Fantastic work Andrew. Have you got any tips on getting a nice smooth had rubbed finish in the tight areas around the finger board riser?

When you see instruments of that calibre, even the most 'super' of superlatives fail to convey an adequate description & appreciation of such quality - breathtaking !!! ,& the colour & finish of the F5 is off the planet,

Peter, I wet sand to 2000, then just get in those tight spots with the Menzerna paste compounds, on a cloth wrapped around a credit card or a thin piece of wood. It's not perfect under there, trust me ;) I can get right up to the extension with the buffer (except on the scroll side), so the areas I have to do by hand are actually pretty small.

My GOM was in this batch, and I received it yesterday. I had just enough time to tune it up and play it for a few minutes before I had to run off to rehearsal and decided to take it along. I have to say, I AM ECSTATIC to the playing such a fine instrument. As good as they look, the sound and play even better.
