Hello Mandolin brains,

Owner of this mandolin emailed me these pics...no other identifying marks..i.e. label or serial numbers, stamped or otherwise. Anyone have any info on what this might be? it sure is an interesting back!

Thanks in advance for the help!

It appears to be eastern European in origin.

Can you really see the attachments, Mike? For some reason, I cannot -- I get this msg:
"Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"

I am on Chrome on a PC right now and I cannot see it. Maybe you can download and post the pics, Jamie?

Thanks for the offer Jim...it's weird I uploaded the images as before...but I'm sure it's operator error! : ) I can see the images on my Mac though...mmmmm.

They were visible this morning when I answered the message, I cannot see them now. I'm getting an error message that the file can't be found. They were odd from the onset. There was a link instead of a thumbnail. As the only person other than the OP that saw them you'll have to take my word for what they were

In looking at the code it wasn't attached correctly, it doesn't look like any other attachment I can find. Probably just should try again. Use the Go Advanced button on the bottom of the page and then go to Manage Attachments.

Ok..I tried saving the images in photoshop as jpg instead of saving in preview on jpg. Hope it helps!

Now, I see it. Prob Germany or could be eastern Europe, tho the quality looks pretty high. These are called Portuguese style mandolins.

Definitely eastern European. The general style is typical of the instruments which came out of Romania in the 1970's - particularly the segmented wood on the back -but this one is of far higher quality and, from the photographs, looks a lot older.

From a Goldklang catalog (Germany). Not exactly the same but the headstock is similar.
