Here's an A I just strung up. Wish you could hear it more than just see it.
My wife just chastised me for not coming up with a better backdrop than the chair. I told her no one here looks at what's behind the mandolin.

And here's the peghead.
Come on out to Denver this weekend for the Mid-Winter Bluegrass Fest and you'll be able to hear a few of my mandolins.

Funny, I noticed that chair in the last set and thought the same thing as your wife http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

OK, next time, I'll get Photoshop and make it look like it's flying through space.

Very good work Jim. How long have you been doing this?

Jim Hilburn

John, I built my first F-5 in "79, and sold the first one to someone else in 2000. In between, I built a variety of instruments as a hobby.

A post all the way from the UK from a novice builder working on A model no.1 ( it's been a bad day....). Yours is a great looking mandolin and I've attached a large print of it to the pegboard above my bench as an example and inspiration and hopes for better luck tomorrow !! ...........John

Picked this Mandolin up today in Boulder. Its been played a bit since this thread was started but it still sounds amazing. I've been playing a low end Eastman since I started a few months ago but this is a huge step up for me. I'm loving the tone and the beautiful maple back. Wonderfully crafted instrument.

One of Jim's A models would be a lifetime keeper for many. How about posting a sound clip?

Here's a little sound clip of it. I'm a self taught newb so I know I'm not doing this thing justice. I can't see myself parting with it to be honest. It was like love at first sight.
