Unicorns are really great mandolins. I used to own #142. What year is that, 1981?

I always liked the few of these I've played. Nice!

Did these evolve into Phoenix?

Rolfe Gerhardt says that it is probably 1979, maybe 1980. Number 149 was the last, made in 1980. Cost $440.00 way back then....
And yes, the Phoenix mandolins are the current offerings from Rolfe Gerhardt, who built the Unicorns. He is up to probably number 360 - 370 by now.

Nice mandolin Carler, How do you like the lessons so far? Just stick with it, and make your daddy PROUD.

Rolfe says if you got the master Model in 1982, it was made by Dave Sinko. Rolfe made his last Unicorn in 1980. Dave Sinko continued manufacturing them after he acquired the company from Rolfe.

I've a Sinko F5; it's a wonderful mandolin. Unicorns are very scarce on the used market; I've seen maybe two for sale in the last ten years. I guess the owners are well pleased with them.
