Here are the first pictures smuggled out of Steve Sorensen's workshop, of a brand new Sorensen SXS mandolin.
Steve has been very secretive about this new design and after hearing it yesterday, for the first time, after a year in development, I can attest that it is truly awesome.

Very nice... What wood is the top made of? Looks like.. CA Redwood?

Most beautifully figured redwood I have ever seen.

Your camera has a scratch on the lens, Randy. Cool design and lovely instrument.
Let's hear it.

Looks like you could hang it up from the headstock scroll.

Steve Sorensen really has some wonderful designs, I must say.

Criminy! Who would have guessed, when I offered a tour of the highly secured Sorensen MandoLab, the kindly gentleman's portable telephone could contain a camera?!?

Since the cat's out of the bag, here are a few officially sanctioned photos --

Top is curly Redwood. Back is Curly hard Maple. Binding is Tortoise. Bridge is a Sorensen Killer-Bridge, Tone is quite full and balanced already.

Clearly this is a design which hopes to pay humble homage to Montleone, Brentrup, the Chevy Bumblebee Camaro, and the romantic paintings of the American Orientalism period.

Recordings to follow.

That's a fantastic looking mandolin.. the pattern on the redwood is mesmerizing... almost like a landscape counterpart to the Ocean burst on your Pacifica. Very well done. I've never played a redwood topped mandolin but have heard great things about them.. Hope I'll get a chance to strum this beauty soon.

A very amusing setup for the introduction of the SXS. Also a very nice looking mandolin and I really like the new headstock design.
Looking forward to some sound clips.

That's a real beauty! Congrats on the new design.

In the photo of the mandolab, it looks like you're brewing up a batch of blue mando stain.

Steve is brewing up some blue Mando stain for my Pacifica!.... Stay tuned!

Stunning work again Steve. Monteleone / Brentrup - my immediate thoughts - but with your own input. Amazing !!!!!,

And to Aubrey Beardsley's illustrations for Oscar Wilde's Salome?

Seriously sensuous!

I concur, sure is a thing of beauty. I love how you incorporate the scroll designs on your mandos to the headstock. Artistry that apparently sound as great as they look.

Here is a quick little video of Randy checking out the SXS shown above just after finishing --

Shot this with my Sony smart phone so the sound quality and picture is fairly raw.
