Does anyone know of any examples of (preferably intermediate level) tab in the style done so well by Evan Marshall? I have a student who is trying to develop that particular tremelo style of playing.

thanks...

Tab no but there are sections in std notation on duo-style in old methods by Pettine, Calace (recently reprinted) and Bickford (available from djangobooks.com). Correct spelling is tremolo -- I always get it wrong too.

Thanks, Jim--I was hoping to find something quick and free for the student. Looks like he'll have to pony up a few bucks.
I'm surprised there's so little available.
Thanks for the spelling tip as well. I used to be a good speller but some things are slipping away at this point.

I have to add--I'm surprised and amazed that there's so little material available in this style of playing.

Aside from Marshall few people play this style these days, tho many classical players do use the technique in much of the repertoire.

Jim Dalton, who teaches up in the Boston area and posts here from time to time, compiled this info sheet (http://singingstring.org/PDF/DuoStyleMandolin.pdf) on the style.

Here is a thread from earlier this year on solo mandolin (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?93165-Solo-Mandolin).

Someone posted a whole pdf of Pettine's Duo-Style Primer (http://sethhopper.com/scores/Pettine-Duo_Primer.pdf) here. That should help you lots.

Jim, thanks so much--this gives us a lot to get started with. This particular student plays violin fairly well and can read the standard notation examples with no problem. I really appreciate you taking the time to post this info.
