Hey i am going to be purchasing a mandobird soon and I was wondering if it was better to go with a 4 string or an 8 string?
Sorry if this topic has been posted before but I couldnt find one.
If one is better than the other, why and how?

Kirby, look here (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=22;t=18274).

Are the 8-string Birds available yet?

Well no one around these parts has actually gotten their hands on the 8-string as far as I know. They were shown at NAMM in Jan 2004, but are still unavailable for purchase.

According to Musician's Friend, they're going to be available on Feb. 15th.

MF also said they'd be available Dec 15th, Dec 27th, Jan 11th, ect...They are not sure when they'll get 'em. I originally was going to order a 4 string from MF and then I checked with a local store who said it'd be at least a 4 month wait...luckily I found one through Ted of Jazzmando fame. So, I'd check the classified ads here, I've seen a few listed.

Are you wanting it to sound like a mando or a guitar?
