It's probably held on in traditional Gibson manner, two small pins (nails) in holes in the fretboard side, held on by pressure but I don't know that for sure.

No, you just pull it out. If it gets too loose you adjust the pins a bit and put it back in. If it's done that way it's made so that it can be removed.

It's possible that it may not be fixed like that so you'll need to look at it to find out. The guard on my Kimble is fixed with a pin and a screw through a small sliver of material (wood?) underneath the edge of the guard so, although I've never taken it off, I'd imagine it would be simply matter of removing the screw.

Thanks Ray. How do you like your Kimble btw? I've heard many great things about them but have never had the chance to play one.
