I recently purchased a Gibson army/navy for my son, which came with its original case. That original case doesn't provide much protection for the mando, but it's a pretty cool historical piece. I then bought a pre-owned TKL case on eBay which almost fits the army/navy, but it is a little too snug in a couple of places. If I can just get a little padding out of the sides of the case, it should be fine. My question is, should I do that? And if so, is there a preferred way to go about it?

Usually you can carefully pull the lining apart at the seams (it's just glued in place) and slice away some of the padding. A hot glue gun should work fine for re-gluing the lining and padding, or you can use contact adhesive, which generally seems to work a little better. You apply it to both surface, let it dry for ten minutes, and stick them together.
