Sorry if this has already been discussed.

Has anyone else taken one of the Yamaha guitaleles, taken off the 3rd string and retuned it to a 5 string mandolin?

It's an easy conversion -

The Yamaha GL1 Mini 6-String Nylon Guitalele is half guitar, half ukulele, and 100% fun. A unique mini 6-string nylon guitar that is sized like a baritone ukulele (17" scale) and plays like a standard tuned guitar. The guitalele's tuning is pitched up to A (or up a 4th) at A/D/G/C/E/A.

Just wondering what anyone thought.

I have one tuned to G instead of A. How is the mando tuning working out for you? Seems like the neck width might be a bit of an issue for me!

Yes, that's what I meant - I tuned it GDAEB.

I'm just getting started on it, but am finding it interesting. I used to play a fiddle so I am working out the tunes that I remember.

Cool suggestion, I have mine in 6 string guitar tuning in G versus Yamahas recommended A guitar tuning. Will have to see if I can manage any 4 string mando chords on the guitalele.

I am also going to swap out the strings on my 6 string Gitjo and give Nashville tuning a try..
