Hmmm. Seems a bit more expensive than a couple of 10 ga. 15/8 BBs shells -- a most effective b*njo mute.

I favor the wooden goodness of a Louisville Slugger myself. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

you order it from them and a year later you will still be on the phone trying to get it. I don't think they are on anyone's side. Definitely not the better business bureaus.

Someone enlighten me, I'm not a bluegrass person - whence stems this good-natured rivalry twixt the mandolinists and banjo players?

CB,

I'm pretty new here too, but I think it has to do with how LOUD a b@#*o is, and how hard it is for a mando player to compete with all of that racket on stage. Not a problem for me, as I never figure to be on stage to begin with!

FWIW re banjo mutes, my favorite repair ace says the best ones are a little sealed tank of mercury atop the bridge.
Newtonian inertia at its most useful.

I was about ready to order a Rover RM75 from FOTW, but now I am hesitant.....

I thougt they seemed reliable...

Thanks for your input, they did undercut the Rover by 50 bones less than I have seen so I wondered about that. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I asked that very question a while back and got additional replies which are summarised below:

-Banjos: are too loud, never stay in tune
-Banjo Players: are all inbred (a la Deliverance), always think everyone else is out of tune, feel the need to monopolise solos and breaks.

I've never had problems with banjo players myself, and I know a few that don't fall in these categories... It's mainly good-natured rivalry I think http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
