Hey Y'all,

Anybody have any guesses about this guitar? Rosewood back and sides, heavily and well bound. I'm trying to identify maker, or anything about it, really. (A fella has proposed a trade...)103801

My general guess would be European, not American, likely French or German, late 19th century to early 20th century. I would not bet my life on that and that is more my gut.

Concur with Jim's opinion. The fact that the upper and lower bouts are nearly the same size, is a European characteristic. Seems to be a gut-strung guitar originally, but with a pin bridge, which is also fairly common for a century ago.

If there's no label, determining the maker is going to be very difficult. As is putting a value on it. If you can take it to a guitar shop and have it appraised, before committing to a trade, you could get an expert opinion.

Or, you could try posting on a guitar-centric forum, where there may be someone with the right expertise or experience.
