GrateDawg, I hope when this much-discussed Savannah arrives it isn't a disappointment to you. You're sure anxious about it, and already preparing to replace half of it, sight unseen.

Assume you've read the Amazon customer reviews (http://www.amazon.com/Savannah-SF-100-F-Model-Mandolin-Sunburst/product-reviews/B001680Q0E) of the SF-100. Summarized, they seem to say "decent mandolin for the price, nothing special, OK to learn on, get it set up properly." Some buyers have replaced components, most have said that doesn't come well-set-up -- no surprise when you order on-line from a discount seller.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda: you wanted an F-model, so you paid, say, $225 for the plywood Savannah. Had you settled for an A-model, you could have bought a solid wood, hand-carved, well-set-up FlintHill (with a gig bag) (http://www.themandolinstore.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=9778) from the Mandolin Store for $45 less.

But you can learn on the Savannah -- if it's properly set up. And when you've done that, you can buy a better mandolin, and keep the Savannah to play on camping trips, or to loan to your nephew who wants to learn to play like Unkle GrateDawg.
