Hi http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Can you help me to find the notes, please, for this beautiful tune of Ricky Skaggs on his CD BRAND NEW STRING

There is ( i think) some crosspicking ? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

The extract http://cbom.free.fr/sounds/1co.mp3

Thank you

John

That's a pretty piece of work on the mandolin. I don't know about the notes/tablature, maybe you could find out from his website?

Use the Google (http://www.google.com), Luke!

Doesn't seem to have any tab, though.

John,

Have you had any luck? If not, I would certainly be willing to write something out for you (I wouldn't mind figuring this lick out for myself). I will have to get my hands on the whole tune. Let me know if you would be interested.....

Mandolman: I can't help you with notation or tab, but thanks for posting that link -- that's a great tune, and I think I'll need to go out and get that CD. Ever since seeing Ricky as (Not) Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco last year, I've been wanting to buy one of his CD's, and perhaps this is the one.

(BTW, your post's title confused me a little, since I wasn't aware that the old testament had a companion CD on the market. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

Mad Dawg, The Old Testament was written pre CD. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif As far as that goes, so was the New Testament, which is where Corinthians is located. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

John, I was able to learn this one a while back by copying the sample to my pc and then playing it back on media player at slow speed. Fortunately for us they put the entire mandolin part on the sample.

I don't have the tab but I have worked out most of it. That CD is my favorite CD from 2004...just a great album. If you don't have it, its a must buy. Once I get the whole thing worked out I may be able to post something.

That's right. Biblical scholars have found the original pressings of the new testament were vinyl, with the gospels and the longer books on LP and some of the shorter books on 45s, although the old testamant is mostly on '78s...

how does he make that cool clicking noise?

the clicking comes from the pick hitting the fingerboard extension. That's the reason you hear it while he is picking on the A and E strings but not while on the D or G. Most people don't want this, especially when recording and that's why you hear people say they had their extension scooped or cut off. But it can add cool effects I guess...if that's somthing you are trying to do.
