Anybody know how Ebo Walker (not his real name) got his "stage" name. #I have heard that he died in prison....Anybody know for sure?

Scotti Adams
Feb-25-2004, 5:50pm
...man you guys are pretty good...Not just anybody would know the tuner button question Alan....I was actually thinking about you on that one along with the "ghost note" one too. Im not 100% sure that Joe Carrol was the first bass player for DGQ though...maybe your right..I had someone else in mind. Ben..I had the John Duffy question for you...StringPhan...#'s 2 and 7 are wrong...you guys need #'s 1,2,3,5,7 and 8 and you will have them all right....

Scotti/Alan...

I think Tom Ewing was the last Bluegrass Boy guitarist. Wayne was 2nd to last. Just for fun, who was his last fiddler?

Charlie

Scotti Adams
Feb-25-2004, 6:06pm
..your right Charlie...hmmm the fiddler...was it Robert Bowlin?

Charlie Derrington

18- somebody Amatneek?

Scotti Adams
Feb-25-2004, 6:35pm
...well..I'll be....congrats Mike....I didnt think anyone would get that one #7....I guess I will never under estimate again....and thats right on the DGQ's bass player also..first name would be Bill..

AlanN
Feb-25-2004, 6:44pm
Now, hold on one dadgum minute, sparky...

Technically, for Bill Amatneek to be the right answer, the question should read "Who was the bass player who played on the first DGQ record (Kaleidoscope F-5)?" I stand by my answer that the bass player in the original Quintet was Joe Carroll (since deceased). He never recorded with the band.

Let's get Alex Tribeck to settle this once and for all http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Scotti, is that the answer you were looking for on #1? What about Stringbean and Jim Shumate?

AlanN
Feb-25-2004, 9:37pm
Hey Scotti,

I'd have to go back and put on the vinyl to listen. I know it's not Blackberry 'cause Dawg is on that. Maybe Manzanita?

Scotti Adams
Feb-25-2004, 10:28pm

Scotti Adams

Would we be talking about "that Jackson fella" on #7? I know the "company" that bought it was part of a partnership that included him.

I say....Michael Jackson......Final Answer.

8. ...Neal?(or Neil). I think one of Red's son's died as a young man. I seem to remember a eulogy written by one of the boys hung on the wall at Sam's Bar & Grill in Dayton, Ohio, about 25 years ago. Red and them used to play there.

Dean Henderson

8. #Actually, Red Allen had 4 sons - Harley, Greg, Ronnie and Neal (Neal, possibly the most talented Red's sons, died of pneumonia in the late 60's or early 70's).
15. Did Butch Robins play bass with the NGR before Ebo Walker?

Scotti Adams
Feb-26-2004, 6:46pm

I'll take a shot at #1. I believe the original bluegrass boys were, Cleo Davis on guitar, Art Wooten on fiddle, and Amos Garren on bass. Bill played mando obviously.

Scotti,

You're right, I forgot about Tommy Millard. Tommy played the jug and did some of the comedy before Bill hired Amos Garren to play bass. I hope that's right.

I love Sam Bush's break in Little Sadie. It is one of my favorites, but I have never noticed the "ghost note". I tell you if i could screw up, and have it come out like that I would be a happy picker.

Ebo Walker.....wasn't his name taken from a
song that the Dillards' played? That's what I
remember.

Tom Ewing was the last guitar player to play
with Bill Monroe while he was still alive and playing.
Wayne came back to play with the rest of the
Bluegrass Boys on the last shows. IMHO, that does
not qualify Wayne as the last guitar player.

Who was the last banjo player for Bill Monroe?

BenE
Feb-27-2004, 1:15pm
Ebo Walker...got his name because he played electric bass in the walking bass run style... thus
E-Electric
b0-Bass
Walker-walking style of bass playing

Scotti Adams
Feb-27-2004, 1:46pm
..Blake Williams was the last banjo player with Mun

evanreilly
Feb-28-2004, 10:51pm
Dana Cupp was the last banjo player with the BGB.

Scotti Adams
Feb-29-2004, 8:41am
..your probably right Evan...Dana is also playing the banjo for Sonny Osborne as he recuperates from a torn rotator ......probably will be out of commission for 6 weeks.. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

ManjoMan
Mar-05-2004, 11:44am
Actually, Dana is the guitar player for the Osbornes, but
he, being a great multi-instrumentalist, fills in where
needed. You should here him play mandolin. He is one
of the best at playing Monroe.
