So i just acquired this little thingy ma bob...

It sounds thubby and thumpy. It`s great for "old timey" melody lines. Horrible for chop chords.
Am enjoying it immensely. Looking forward to exploring its origins and history, and more importantly, playing some tunes on it! :-)

Just by way of correction, Trent - that's certainly not a thingy ma bob, it's a thingumajig. Looks like it would be a lot of fun - enjoy!

Nah. Its a thingumawhatsis.
Banjolins are great fun. Not "de rigueur" in bluegrass, but the mandolin world is much bigger than bluegrass. Most of my mandolins don't chop, but they sure sing.
If we're really getting technical here, that's a mandolin-banjo. Banjolins have only 4 strings.

Is that a vintage British MB or a Turkish Cumbus/joombush?

This i have no idea of as yet. There are no markings at all on the instrument. The headstock seems to have a different shape to what is out there on the web.
There is an original instructional "Ukulele Banjo" booklet that was inside the case. It is dated 1922.
Will continue searching.
I`m having a blast playing it!

It's a hubcap.....with a roadkill hide.....and a neck. Huh.
Just kidding! Have fun with it.
