View Full Version : Slipping Nut

My Hullah solid body has developed a slipping nut. It is moving E-wards, so the edge most E-string actually slips off of the zeroth fret.

Should I try to just adjust bridge position to compensate, perhaps change to a lighter E to try and better balance tension (currently using 34w, 20w, 14, 9.5) or glue the nut in place?

If I should fix the nut, what glue would you recommend (it's a wooden nut) - gelatin or white wood glue perhaps?

TIA
Steve

The nut should be lightly glued to the end of the fingerboard, not totally glued in all around. That way the next person that has to repair or replace the nut can remove it easily. White glue, yellow glue, or gelatine all are fine. You can even use cyano (super glue) if it's the thick kind.

Thanks John

Sounds like a good Sunday morning job - guess I'll be playing bouzouki tomorrow while it dries.

Cheers
