View Full Version : Any information about a Norwegian mandolin from the 20's?

I am asking about this mandolin for someone else. In addition to these two photos, all I can add for the moment is that the mandolin belonged to the owner's grandfather, and was purchased in Norway in the 1920s. The label inside has a Norwegian music store's name (I am told). Will try to get more info later. My initial thought was that it has some relation to Levin mandolins. The headstock is not typical of Levins, but some Levins did have a square headstock.

Just had another look at the Levin catalogues online. I think the basic shape and round hole made me think Levin, but the tapered fretboard is not at all Levin. In fact, the tapering without the tail extending over the soundhole seems kinda unusual, doesn't it?

It looks a lot like the mandolins made by "Halden" in the link I provided in the other thread.

Wow, you are right. I was working my way through the list top to bottom, but did not get to Halden yet (my computer was taking forever loading up those different pages).

Thanks again for the link.
